The Tower, designed in 1884 by Gustave Eiffel, was inaugurated for the Universal Exhibition in 1889 after 21 months of work. The latter had called it 'The tower 300 meters', yet his name became later the 'Eiffel Tower'. Today, Parisians have nicknamed, the Eiffel Tower, the "Grande Dame" for its exceptional size and shape.
